The Reservation

The Reservation

The reservation is very interesting to me because it's basically the Indians culture stuffed into like a small little village. And In that metaphorical village their culture is like a little treasure that is kept between them and it's basica all they know. They have their own sayings, their own stereotypes, and they have like their own little world. But I like it because it's all based off culture and family like everyone considers everyone to be family there. Everyone knows everyone and everything is kept between them all. It compares to our society and community because in some places of the city there are the same kinds of ethnic people and culture so everything is relatable around there. They have little stores that fit the cultures needs and restaurants of what they eat, like parts of our city where pizza is more popular than others and taco places and things like that. So we can relate in that way like the Indians do in the Rez. But Like the Rez everyone considers to be family and won't really hurt Eachother but it's like one family and I wish our community and society's were that close and had that kind of mind set. If so I think crime would be a lot lower in the city.

Native Son, Max and Bigger

In Native Son Max is the one that is most related to Bigger because he speaks out on how he feels about the black race and how racism played a role during that time and how it played the role during the part of the book where he feels that it influences the court scene. He basically speaks out for the black race banking on equality and how everyone should be treated included blacks on the basis of fairness and being equal. During the time of the book and when it was published racism played a big role in the world and blacks were looked down on and even in the book it's shown. So it's interesting to me that Max as being a white man can speak out freely on how he felt in the court room when he gave his sort of speech in the courtroom scene. What is also did which is huge in this moment he made bigger a believer and made bigger trust him. And that's big right now in the book because bigger doesn't trust anyone right now and he feels no one is in his corner and that everyone is sort of blind to the situation and How bigger chose to act. So of course there will be consequences of what he did but what this speech by Max did was is sort of gave the equal feel to everything because they won't really pull the racism card and go kind of easier on Biggers Because If not then Bigger would have Probably been in a really hard space. So Max comes off to me as someone thats really trustworthy and is really involved in his job because he then tells Bigger some personal stuff labour him and that's where I think he won Biggers trust. So Max on Bigger is a positive spot in this wild book that has plenty of Negative points.

A Principle to Keep

a principle to keep and one that i live by in that in no circumstance should you physically fight or hit a female. i feel this is an important principle to keep because you should never in any case have to hit a female, like come on your a guy you don't have feelings like they do so you can brush it off when a girl sincerely makes you mad, or even if you feel like you cant brush it off it should never go so far and make you feel so much that you feel like you should hit her or get into a fist fight with her. you should be raised on morals like these because the affects that can come from this. like how would you feel if you got into a physical altercation with a female that led to you eventually fighting, and then your mom or sister is in the same situation you were and they get beat and hit on. like you wouldn't like that at all so think about how someone else will.
This connects to the story the road because they are in a situation where they need to at all cost do what they have to do to continue to survive. so i don't know what they will do if they came across the situation where they would physically hit a female to get what they need and continue on down the road. but i know that its critical right now to do what you have to do, but if so do it in the less physical way possible like don't beat and abuse a female but there would be other ways to get it done. so faced with that situation i don't know what road id take but it'd definitely be a hard decision.

Janie

To me Janie has many traits that makes her character very interesting and its set up so good by the author that through everything that happens in this book and all she goes through that she continues to look for her dreams and try to find love. Shes interesting to me because when i think of her character my thoughts lead me to a lot of ideas about her in the sense that shes trying very hard to find love. Like shes been married into what she thought would be a great marriage because of what her grandma told her and who her grandma set her up with, but when it boils down to what Janie herself wants she sees that it isn't her first husband because of all the little things that he does or all the little things he does. But that's funny because she was set up with him because he was stable and had money and could provide a good way of living for her. But the truth of the matter is that she doesn't care because shes going after love and she wants happiness more than just to be taken care of but she wants to love. So throughout the first marriage i questioned whether she was with him for what he had and what he could do for her or was it because he made her feel really could and she developed feelings for him. And from how her grandma described him it was for Janie to be taken care of. So i felt as if she was married for the material things and not the love. But the fact that she left him and went to a guy who made her happier in a sense i started to feel as if, ok she is looking for love. But then the fact that the new guy was rich also it took me back to the thoughts that she was maybe into it for all the material things. But then she took another turn with wanted to move on because she felt tied down and she wasn't really happy anymore and he died and she moved on. So overall so far Janie is the most interesting character because shes starting to be unpredictable which is only making the book a little more interesting to read, so i'm curious to see how she'll act in the upcoming chapters.

Thankful for a Classmate

The classmate im thankful for is Willie. I'm thankful for Willie because he's one of my closest friends and main partner in English class and he's my basketball teammate. We are partners in English class and we discuss how we feel about the books that we read inot class and we usually work together doing group work in class. He's also one of my closest friends and we're like that mainly because of this school year and us having the same lunch and this English class. So we've gotten to know more about each other given those circumstances. And also I'm thankful for him being my basketball teammate because he's a great player and we all have a lot of fun doing all the basketball activities from practice to games. He's becoming like a brother to me as all of my basketball teammates are

There Goes the Neighborhood

About a week ago a large boat of strange looking men and women beached near the ocean. The strange people have a much different face to mine and their skin is a completely different shade of brown. We call these newcomers white people. When the white people landed on our shore most of the younger less white people ran to hide in the their homes. I turned to run until our wisest adult demanded to meet the white people's leader. The few that ventured off of the large vessel stared at the adult with quizzical looks. It was obvious these people did speak our language. They wore much more clothes than my people. One even wore a shiny chest plate with a golden cross hanging from his neck. We identified this man as their leader. One brave elder woman gestured for the white men to follow us to our homes. As we led the newcomers to our camp they looked at each tree and animal as if it were a strange fish trapped in a pond. At home the elders and newcomers gestured awkwardly for a few minutes until the white men went back to their boat.

A few days later the white men returned with bags on their back. The amount of shiny objects they had was enough to leave me in awe. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. Every man in this white group held sharp shiny spears they called swords. Their leader pointed in the direction south of hear and explained to our leader (as best he could) that they were settling. Our leader wanted to object, but each of our people were too terrified  by the white people's odd technology.

Hemingway

To me Ernest Hemingway was a great author and had many wonderful books and short stories that carried messages deep that it basically told his life story all in detail. I feel like his writings are so influential to me because he uses so much detail and describes things to an extent that it makes me feel like im actually there visualizing the story that hes telling. His movie told me alot about him pertaining to how he wrote and why he wrote in the sort of style that he did. His life seemed very hard and confusing the way that he and his family acted. Like the thought of my mom dressing me up as a girl would definitely cause me feelings to write about some things that demonstrated how i felt about that. And the role his father played in his life surely impacted him and also his fathers death because all of that impacted the way he chose to father his children which semmed kind of neglectful to me. But those are some of the things he chose to write stories about. What also threw me about him was how many women he had, married, or had affairs with. I dont see how you can go through it with that many women and still remain a leveled man, but he did and that also fueled his writing. All in all I feel that his life pioneered all of his writings and thats what made him the powerful writer he was, and thats what makes me so amazed about his stories when i read and analyze them.
